About Us Where We Are We are located in the Amador County Foothills southeast of Sacramento between Sutter Creek and Placerville. This region produces excellent Zinfandel and Rhone varietals. Big bold reds! A must visit area if you like wine. Not as crowded as Napa and usually no charge for tasting, the wineries are small and friendly and located within close proximity of each other. Who We Are In 1998 we purchased a house on 5 acres after leaving the bay area. We had no idea wineries existed here. It wasn't long before we found the 15 wineries less than 10 minutes down the road. The Wine Wagon was started by Ron and Jennifer Decker in 2002 after meeting Jim Spinetta of Spinetta Winery. He convinced us our soil was good for grapes and making wine was something Ron could do. And so it began. We started the Co-Op with friends who were also interested in wine and the Co-Op has grown each year. We also now have over 30 wineries! Ron has served on The Amador Winemakers (AWA) Board for the past 3 terms and is fortunate to have access to many home winemakers. We have also met some friendly commercial winemakers who are generous with their knowledge. Our property is planted with several varietals and we will harvest our own "estate" grapes in 2005. Ron is the "Amateur Master Winemaker" and makes the final decisions on how the wine is made. Jennifer is webmaster and chief paper-pusher. All our members help to create and make our wines possible. The Wine Wagon is made up of about 20 members for the 2004-2005 year. What We Are Our concept is to create a winery where the members can participate in the wine making process from beginning to end. Members come out and pick the grapes, help in the crush to get the grapes ready for primary fermentation. Ron, Jennifer and Ashley then press the grapes after primary fermentation (anyone is welcome to come help). Ron handles the wine from there, racking the sediment out and monitoring acid levels. We invite people to come out and barrel taste anytime. We have a bottling party that includes a lot of hard work and a lot of food and wine! We try to throw 2 parties a year, one in August and one in January that teaches about wine tasting and provides a fun blind tasting event. New for 2005-2006 we offer three types of memberships. The Gold, The Silver & The Bronze. Click here for more information. Each year we hope to expand The Wine Wagon and offer our members more wine, more wine related items and more parties. We encourage suggestions and wine conversation. ~Ron and Jennifer Decker Co-Op Wine Blogs Store Our wines Photo Gallery About Us Home
